Slow, specific pressure

Deep Tissue Massage in Spokane

Deep tissue work is slow. That is the whole mechanism — sustained, patient pressure that gives dense, chronically shortened tissue time to let go, rather than fast strokes that skate across the top of it.

It is frequently confused with "as hard as you can stand," which is a different thing and a less useful one.

Why slower works better than harder

Muscle protects itself. Push into it faster or harder than it is willing to accept and it braces, which means the pressure lands on a wall of guarded tissue instead of the restriction underneath. The result is a session that feels intense and changes very little, followed by two days of soreness.

Working at the edge of what the tissue will accept — and waiting there — lets the guarding fade, and the depth becomes available without forcing it. That is why a good deep tissue session often feels less dramatic than expected and produces more.

What it suits

Deep tissue is usually the right call when:

If you are mainly looking to switch off and de-stress, the restorative Swedish session is genuinely the better booking — and it is the same price.

What to expect afterwards

Expect to feel worked-on for about a day, similar to the day after a good gym session. Drink water, move normally rather than resting completely, and skip a hard training session that evening if you can.

Tell your therapist during the session, not after, if pressure crosses from productive into painful. Adjusting is part of the treatment, not an interruption of it — and it is the single thing that most improves the result.

Common questions

How sore will I be after a deep tissue massage?
Mild tenderness for around twenty-four hours is normal and usually fades by the second day. Sharp pain, bruising or soreness lasting beyond about forty-eight hours means the pressure was too much — that is worth mentioning so the next session can be calibrated differently.
Is deep tissue massage safe if I have an injury?
It depends entirely on the injury and its stage. Acute injuries, unexplained swelling, and anything a physician has told you to keep off are all reasons to wait or to work elsewhere on the body. Mention it when you book — sessions are adapted around it, and where massage is not the right tool at that moment we will say so.
How often should I get deep tissue work?
While actively working on a pattern, every one to two weeks. Once it settles, most people find every three to six weeks holds the result.
